Love at Last Sight: Season 8

See You Next Fall

Love is beyond an emotion. The ‘in love’ phenomenon has been extensively studied by leading psychologists and conclusively termed a myth. Falling in love or tripping for someone is just that. One psychiatrist called it ‘a genetically determined instinctual component of mating behaviour...which serves to increase the probability of sexual pairing and bonding so as to ensure the survival of the species.’ Whether we agree with that or not, Bye! See you next fall. The airplane always makes a final approach and you end up in the terminal. Happy landing.

From conclusive long range studies on scores of couples, research tell us that the ‘in love’ thingy lasts only an average of two years. Romantic obsession lasts a little longer if it’s the surreptitious kind- a married, churchy, community icon, company president type with three kids in an Affaire de Coeur with his dashing, half-my-age, supermodel, ex-Miss World secretary getting some on phantom business meetings in the South of France. He loves her enough to ruin his reputation, live a lie, break his marriage, brave repeated office carpet burns, develop early osteoarthritis, slip a disc on the wooden office table, get a venereal disease, lose his place of fatherhood, mortgage the next generation, toy with the company books, toss extravagant blood diamonds, dinner gowns and Guccis every other week while the Mrs. needs a new oven, damn his friends and shoot himself in the foot (or head). He’ll catch a grenade for her. Really. He’s fallen in love. Smack on his face with a resulting Glasgow Coma Score of 7.

  1. GRR @ blogger for not posting my lengthy, amusing comment!!

so i fit remark only that, what u describe as dis orgasmic longing of sorts (the lack thereof, actually) can be provenly reduced to a mere super-saturation of the biochemical prowess of your partner ;)
